How is the process to create your own folder?
In order to create a new folder on Yahoo! Mail´s platform, you obviously have to be logged in into the service. In this way, you will be able to manage and see your inbox and starting the process of creating your own useful and customizable folders.
Therefore, to open session on Ymail just visit the web site https://mail.yahoo.com and enter your credentials as Yahoo account and password.
Being on your inbox, on the left side you will be able to see a folder panel where you can click on the “Inbox”, “Unread”, “Starred”, “Draft”, “Sent”, “Archive”, “Spam” and “Deleted Items” buttons, as predetermined folders where your messages are stored depending on your actions, and also regarding the different types of email received.
At the bottom of the folder panel, you will find the “Folders” button for you to create customizable email containers, however, such button will not be clickable just yet because there is not any created folders by you, so you have to click on the “Show” button for the “+ New Folder” option to appear.
Then, you will click on the “+ New Folder” button and an empty space will appear for you to enter the new folder´s name, which in this example will be “Work” and after typing such word you will click on “Submit Input” button showed as a blue squared icon with an arrow. Like this, the new folder is now created and ready to use.
If you change your mind and decide to change the folder´s name, you can erase the typed word and write another or cancel the whole process by clicking on the icon appearing as an “x”, which stands for “Dismiss input”.
As you can see, the new folder labeled as “Work” is now available and ready to be used, as a small notification will let you know with its name on it. Of course, being a new folder means that it is going to be empty at this point, which lead us to the next step; moving selected messages from the inbox to this new email container and organize them better.
Moving emails from inbox to your new created folder
Now that you have created a new folder, you can move emails from your inbox to this container regarding the specific use you want to give it to it. In this case, the folder is labeled as “Work” so it means all messages related to this matter are going to be replaced into this concrete container.
To do so, you can select one message or several of them in the inbox, by clicking on the empty box next to every message, so you can select as much as you like. In this way, the option panel will be enabled on top of the inbox and you can click on diverse buttons to carry out different actions, such as “Archive”, “Move”, “Delete”, and “Spam”, along with others.
Also, you can select all messages appearing on the list by clicking on the empty box next to left of the option panel, in case you want to move all of them to your new created folder.
So, having you selected the messages to replace now you are going to click on the “Move” button on the option panel, appearing a dropdown menu with options like “Find a folder”, “Archive”, “Spam”, “Deleted Items” and a list of all the created folders by you. Therefore, you are going to click on the “Work” folder that should appear on the list.
By doing so, a notification will appear showing you that the selected messages were replaced into the created folder, in this cases “Work” and it will also show an “Undo” button in case you want to cancel the operation.
Being inside the Work folder, you can see that the selected messages are actually in it and no longer in your inbox, giving a more organized approach to your layout and such messages will be easy to find.
Also, you can move a specific email that you are reading into a created folder of yours, in the case you have it opened and you consider it should be on a container as Work, in this example. So, open the message and click on the “Move” button on the option panel, and then look for the folder on the list of options appearing on the dropdown menu.
And last but not least, in the case you need to return messages from your created folders to the inbox or any other, repeat the last step but inside the folder from where the emails your want to return to inbox are, like an upside down process.
Modifying, renaming and deleting created folders
After you have created different folders, you can modify them in order to correspond your interests over time, along with a deleting option in the case you consider not needing them anymore.
To access these options, place the cursor on the folder you want to modify or delete and click on the black arrow icon appearing next to its name, so a pop-up menu comes up with different options.
In details, you can click on “Archive All Emails” to store all messages from the folder to Archive, “Delete All Emails” to delete all messages inside the folder, and the options to “Rename Folder”, changing the name, “Delete Folder” to delete the container for good, and the “Create Subfolder” option, allowing you to organize large folders into sections if they become too large.
For example, this available option to create subfolders is important to manage big folders if you want to have sections and be more organized. To create a subfolder, click on the “Create Subfolder” option and type the name you want it to have, then click on “Submit Input” as the blue icon with an arrow and you are good to go, being in this case the “Office” folder.
Also, you can delete this subfolder any time you want by using the options appeared on the pop-up menu, by clicking on the black arrow next to every created folder.
Remember, when all the actions available on the pop-up menu are carried out a notification appears showing you the process was successful and correct.
Using an email service like Yahoo! Mail implies that you are going to receive a lot of messages from your contacts, as well as different providers and companies online, mails from work, newsletter and so on. Therefore, this means your inbox can become quite crowded in a short time, and while this does not mean the space is limited, finding a specific message can be a little hard.

Using the Archive folder to save important emails

There are two different ways on YMail to save emails on the Archive folder, being both of them intuitive and very easy to use, having the same result to store messages on Archive for their later use as a secure container.
In this way, the first method is to select an email from your inbox by clicking on the empty box next to it, in order to enable the option panel on top of the inbox and be able to manage the selected email.
With the option panel enabled, you will be able to click on the “Archive” button being the first, along with the “Move”, “Delete”, “Spam” buttons and the “other options” icon represented by three dots.
By clicking on the “Archive” button the selected message will be replaced into the Archive Folder and will disappear from the inbox. Do not worry, for you to notice this process was successful a notification will be shown, telling that the selected conversation was archived and giving the chance to undone the procedure in case of mistake, by clicking on the “Undo” button.
Like this, an important message for you is now archived and just at one click ahead, escaping all the crowded inbox.
Now, this procedure showed you how you can send one message to the Archive folder, but if you want you have the options to send as many as you want or a whole folder email page, by clicking on the empty box next to the left side of the option panel, which will select all the messages and you can unselect the ones you do not want to archive.
On the other hand, if you want to select more than one message but not sending the whole folder email section, you can select the emails to archive manually by clicking on the empty box next to them.
Besides of the selection method to archive emails, there is another one that is actually more direct but it applies only to the message you are reading at the moment. So, let us say you receive an email and you open it to check what is on it, then you realize such message is important and you want to archive it; no problem, just click “Archive” on the option panel above the message.
In such a fast way, the email you were reading is now safe and secure on your Archive Folder, with a notification letting you know the process was completed successfully, and giving you a few seconds to undone the process if you want to, by the “Undo” button.
If you want, you can remove emails placed on the Archive folder and return them to the inbox or their original location, since you do not need them archived in such folder anymore.
To do so, click on “Archive” and select the messages to replace and click on the “Restore to Inbox” button on the option panel, and in this way all selected messages will be now on the inbox and the Archive folder will be clean.
Mark emails as Starred on Yahoo! Mail
There is a second method on Yahoo! Mail to differentiate specific emails from the rest; the Starred process, as a way to stand out important messages by the user with a star on them. Thus, you can know exactly what emails are important regarding your needs, in comparison to the others filling in your inbox.
Nevertheless, in direct comparison to the archiving process; Starring emails does not replace them into other folder, but keep them on the inbox in the same order you have specified, but with a star to differentiate them. So, keeping a message on sight may be better in some occasions, since moving it the Archive folder can make you forget about it quite easily.
You can star emails by using three different ways that are quite easy to carry out, which all of them have the same result to stand out the selected message whatever method you are using to star it.
First, you can star an email or a few of them by clicking on the empty box next to the messages so they can be selected, enabling the option panel right below the inbox in the same way you do with archiving. Nonetheless, in this case you are going to click on the three dot button that corresponds to what can be called “Other Options” on the right side of the panel, popping out a menu.
On the popping menu, you are going to choose the “Star” option to stand out the selected message, appearing a golden star right next to the email´s subject. As you can see, the message has not been removed from its original folder, it remains on the inbox for you to spot it easily.
Regarding the second method to star an email, you also can do it by being on the email itself you want to stand out this way, so if you are reading it you can differentiate from the others at the same time. To do it, open such email and click on the three dot icon on the option panel to show the implied “Other Options” menu, then click on “Star” and you are good to go.
And last but not least, you can simply star an email without doing anything more than placing the cursor on it, so the “Search” option as a magnifying glass icon, the “Delete this message” option as a trash can icon, and the “Star” option as a star icon appear over such email, and then click on the “Star” button and the message will be starred immediately.
Using any of the three method to star an email, you can remove the star from it by doing exactly the same procedure, if you want such message not to be stand out anymore. In fact, the only difference is that the option on the panel now changes to “Clear Star”.

How to mark emails as junk and move them to Spam folder

Well, in this case you can easily move the related email by clicking on the “Not Spam” button, which is on the tool panel on top of the folder that becomes accessible when you select one or several messages, by clicking on the empty box next to them, being such button available from the email list or the message itself.
After doing this, your message will be replaced on your inbox and a notification will be shown as well, letting you now the process was carried out properly.
Deleting Spam for good
If you have already checked your inbox and Spam folders and you consider there are not trustable emails to recover, and therefore you want to get rid of real Spam and clean your inbox and related folders, you can easily delete all the junk messages.
To do so, enter the Spam folder and select the messages to delete by checking them clicking on the empty box next to them, like this the tool bar above the email list will be accessible and you will be able to click on the “Delete” button.
If you want to delete all the messages placed on the Spam or any other folder, you can check the empty box located on the left side of tool box, by clicking on it and all the messages inside the folder will be selected automatically for deleting, being a great function if you want to delete several or all emails at once.
After the emails are selected on the folder, you only have to click on the “Delete” button and they will be erased permanently. Nevertheless, to avoid deleting messages accidently the platform will ask you to confirm the action, so you only have click on “Ok” if you are sure about deleting the selected emails, or “Cancel” if you want to keep them and you want to cancel the process.

Nevertheless, when you are viewing an email without format you can access the options of “save”, “mark as spam”, “move”, “mark as unread”, “important”, “mark as read”, and “see message without format” as well, because you are going to enter or select and email when browsing the inbox and these options will appear.
Of course, other options to manage and use the inbox and emails will be shown like “reply”, “resend”, “save”, and “reply to all” and “forward”.
Along with the option of using the contextual function bar, on top of it the visualization tabs will appear as well, which can be turned on from the viewing options on the settings.
Like this, with these useful tabs you can open, manage and use different emails and control the different options to every one of them, no matter the number and they will be organized as web pages on a browser, for you to be able to choose the one to read and perform an action.
To enjoy this option to view emails as tabs, the same must be activated on the personalization panel on the right, clicking on the blue switch besides the “message tabs” option. As a recommendation, this type of email viewing is recommended for small screens or with low resolution, but you can use it if you want to have a more organized page.
